The Big Give success

We would like to thank everyone who supported our Big Give Christmas Challenge for the Women’s Refuge Garden Project in Wakefield.

As part of an antidote to Black Friday spending, donors gave a total of £2,064. You can still give and we are looking for major pledges to ensure that this funding is matched, doubling the impact it can have.

Your support means that women and their children fleeing domestic violence will have a safe garden to relax, play and enjoy each other’s company.

Women and their children often leave abusive situations with nothing, and must move as far away from their abuser as possible. As a result they lose connection with their friends and family.

With a safe garden, they will be able to spend quality time with their children and make new friends. This will fundamentally improve their mental health and physical well-being, and provide a sense of belonging. They will regain their confidence and ultimately the ability to move on with a more positive outlook on life.

By growing and cooking vegetables from the garden, mums will learn about healthy eating on a budget. It will also provide a calm environment where mums can attend outdoor support sessions while their children play safely nearby.
